Evanna Devine is an award-winning artist from Belfast, working primarily through photographic portraiture. Her practice centres on long-term, community-led storytelling, exploring themes of class and identity in contemporary Ireland.

She holds a First Class Honours degree in Photography from the Institute of Art, Design and Technology. Her first solo exhibition, It is Different for Mothers (2023), was developed in collaboration with Relatives for Justice and presented at Botanic Gardens.

Devine was recently awarded the Women in Nature Commission with Photo Museum Ireland and Tóchar Wetland Restoration. Selected through an international open call, the resulting body of work will premiere through an exhibition, publication, and public programme.

She was shortlisted for the Taylor Wessing Irish Photo Prize. Prior to this she was awarded a studio residency at the International Center for the Image to research and develop a new body of work. Her recent projects include a solo exhibition Exploring Antrim (2026) with Belfast Photo Festival. Quiet Fighters (2025), exhibited at Photo Museum Ireland, and her first solo publication, Every Glove (2024), published through PhotoIreland's TLP Editions. Devine has also received the Early Career Artist Award from Photo Museum Ireland, the RADAR Residency from PhotoIreland, and the Mason Hayes & Curran–PhotoIreland Award.

‘Exploring Antrim and Newtownabbey’ is a series of four photographic commissions and a public photography competition unfolding across the four seasons. Beginning with inspiration from Evanna Devine in spring, the project invites audiences to discover the landscapes, history, and natural and built heritage of Antrim and Newtownabbey.

Devine’s commission opens a broader photographic portrait of Antrim and Newtownabbey, inviting residents and visitors alike to see its places with fresh eyes and return to them throughout the year.

This project is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
